On February 25, about 160 Dripping Springs High School students put on a mock trial based on a real-life case in conjunction with Dating Violence Awareness Month. The trial took place at the Hays County Government Center in San Marcos.
Dripping Springs High School student Gabrielle Chavez said, “This program has inspired me to do work outside of the trial to raise awareness for dating and domestic violence, and I am very excited to see how this program will grow over the years.”
This is the fourth year for the event, a joint effort of the Hays County District Attorney’s Office, area District Judges, Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center (HCWC), the Hays County Bar Association and Dripping Springs ISD.
Students learned about dating violence, the inner workings of the justice system, and collected sponsorships to cover the expense of the trial and donate to HCWC.
